Protect University, personal, student, staff, research and confidential information.
Use only information and systems you are authorised to access.
Follow course-level instructions on permitted use and acknowledgement.
Verify important facts, sources, citations, calculations and generated outputs.
Disclose AI assistance where it is required.
Keep people accountable for academic, administrative and research decisions.
Use approved services within their approved scope, and do not assume that all external tools have been assessed.
Report suspected privacy, security or inappropriate-output issues through the approved support route.
Guidance for teachers
Describe the permitted functions and conditions of AI use rather than only naming a product. Where appropriate, give examples of acceptable services while specifying whether use is allowed for brainstorming, searching, drafting, coding, feedback, translation, analysis or another defined purpose.
Where consistency, fairness, assessment validity or data handling requires tighter control, the course may specify one or more approved services. Where the exact product is not central, a category-based statement is often clearer and easier to maintain.
State what students may and may not do, what must be acknowledged or cited, what records or prompts should be retained, and how students should proceed if they cannot access the specified service.
Before student work is entered into any service that CUHK has not selected, review the provider's privacy and security conditions, explain the implications to students and follow the applicable consent requirements.
